Ecological approach in interior design

Choosing an eco-design style does not mean throwing out all the appliances, putting a wooden stool instead of a bed, and covering yourself with an animal skin instead of a blanket. It is a whole system and a philosophical vision of modern human life.

The history of eco-design

Style in the interior can not be considered only as a wall decoration and selection of furniture. To penetrate into the essence of any topic, we must consider it in a temporal context. At the time when the eco-design was formed, there was a turning point in the consciousness of all mankind.

In the second half of the twentieth century, with the development of technological life in Europe and America, the growth of cities, doubling the population and the formation of a culture of consumption through mass media, people began to wonder what impact all this activity has on the environment. It was then that scientists began to sound the alarm that factory emissions were not good, the first ozone hole was discovered, and the number of whales in the oceans was catastrophically low. And that's when people began to think about how to save the environment.

Today this eco-culture has taken on an unimaginable scale, people are beginning to reject plastic and polyester, preferring products made of more durable materials. Of course, this trend has not bypassed the world of design.

"The Green Philosophy in Contemporary Homes

To be close to nature, while taking care of our surroundings — that's the main idea. We should try to use a minimum of resources for the arrangement of housing. In the planning process, psychological comfort should be taken into account, and the furniture should be multifunctional and comfortable. To a large extent, this is achieved by the presence of the "spirit of nature" and the atmosphere of relaxation.

Colors in eco-design

Color in any interior is one of the basic concepts. Lightness and space in the house should be conveyed with the help of color. Shades of beige, light green and shades of blue are basic colors.

White is a versatile color that can always be complemented with other components of the palette. Bright colors should obviously not be here — it can disrupt the natural harmony.

Light

This is very important — the interior should be bright, and the space is not cluttered. So that the house, as they say, "was something to breathe. In homes with standard windows, the way out of the situation may be the rejection of the usual thick and dark curtains.

The decor

This style has taken a lot from minimalism — laconic appearance, the absence of unnecessary things, the most spacious room.

Phytodesign is a trend in modern home decoration. The unity with nature is possible thanks to a large number of plants — this all corresponds to the concept of ecological design. Connoisseurs of indoor flowers will like this style. Vases can be made of glass (blue or green) or clay. Wicker baskets or boxes made of vines will also find their place in the house.

Antique details

This fits the philosophy of the style quite well. Such furniture, once made, no longer spends additional resources to make. It is difficult to say what exactly can be considered an antique, but the main signs — handmade, quality materials, the absence of machine processing. A small antique cabinet can become a highlight of the interior.

Materials in eco-design

Probably it will sound banal, but the materials should be natural. The main thing here is not to go overboard with natural elements in the apartment, so it does not turn into a natural history museum. Eco-design is a modern style, where built-in furniture is harmoniously combined with wooden parquet, cotton lightweight textiles and decorations made of wild stones.

Very good in the eco-style looks linen, you can buy it in any handicraft shop and use it as a textile for decorative pillows and napkins.

A bouquet of dried flowers, reeds, straw will look good. If you do not like such things because they collect dust, you can lay them out neatly on some surface and cover them with glass. It can become an interesting picture or even a tabletop for a coffee table.

Upholstered furniture

Filling — latex foam, and in upholstery — cotton, sheep's wool, natural latex. In addition to the familiar wood, everyone can consider furniture made of bamboo. According to the classification — it is a grass with a very strong stem. Bamboo grows very fast, so you get natural furniture and does not harm the environment.

Expensive does not mean good

If you decide to stick to environmental standards in your home, then be prepared not only to use the gifts of nature, but also to protect it. Redwood, cedar species are very rare species, which, after felling, are restored for decades.

We can conclude that eco-design is a holistic worldview, based on careful attitude to the world that surrounds us. Artificial things cannot replace the power of nature, from which we draw energy. This style was created for comfort, as a response to the consumer culture and the too rapid pace of life.
