Lighting in the bathroom

The ideal amount of lighting for the bathroom is as close to daylight as possible. In this way it will be possible to create the most natural light for a natural look and a variety of beauty treatments. Since the combined bathroom is used for different needs, it is better to install combined lighting.

The choice of lighting types is influenced by the following factors:

  • peculiarities of zoning of the room;

  • interior and color scheme. The more dark colors used in the design, the higher the intensity should have light sources;

  • the shape and size of the room;

  • peculiarities of zoning;

  • the presence of reflective surfaces, such as tiles, mirrors and fixture mechanisms.

It is desirable to think through the lighting system even before the beginning of the repair, this will help to provide a safe wiring of cables, plan the place of construction of plasterboard false beams, etc.

Selecting the light

Regardless of whether there are windows in the bathroom or not, it is better to choose bright light that will not irritate the eyes. Designers recommend choosing warm light with a yellowish shade, it is considered the most comfortable. Sources with this light are better placed near the bath or shower cabin — it will help to relax in the bathing area. But devices with cold white light are usually located near sinks, as it helps to wake up quickly and cheer up.

Arrangement of light sources

The standard version of lighting in the bathroom is a tiered lighting system in three levels.

Main lighting

Given the location, there are ceiling, wall and floor lights with automatic or manual activation.

On a standard painted ceiling, pendant lights with high moisture resistance are usually installed. For the ceiling, decorated with slats or plastic panels, choose built-in ceiling lights. They are one of the safest options, as they have hidden wiring. If the bathroom is installed stretching canvas, then the best solution would be to buy spot lighting, and for the multilevel ceiling will be appropriate LED lamps.

But the ceiling fixtures are often not enough, in this case, help wall light sources. Their location is dictated by the height of the walls. Such lights should not blind the eyes, so they are usually set at two meters from the floor.

Lighting on the flooring is usually a backlight, such as LED strip or sealed fixtures.

Lighting of functional areas

Each area of the room requires the installation of auxiliary light. In this way you can not only make the room functional, but also add a touch of originality to the monotonous atmosphere.

Working areas

This includes the area with the mirror and washbasin, here you need high-quality lighting, which is evenly distributed over the surfaces and falls on both sides. Symmetrical installation of two lamps on the sides of the mirror surface above eye level is best for this purpose. Lamps with flexible brackets with the ability to adjust the direction of light are considered very convenient.

Storage spaces

To bring a certain elegance and harmonious simplicity to the interior, the highlighting of individual elements of design is used. This decorative solution is also very convenient because it allows you to additionally illuminate the mirror, cabinets, shelves, and drawers for belongings and hygiene products. Such illumination is easiest to implement with the help of spotlights or LED strip lights.

Lighting in different interior styles

In the classical style, bathrooms are decorated with wrought iron chandeliers or massive lamps with metal decorations. Such fixtures are usually decorated with numerous pendants, chains and other decorative elements.

For minimalism are characterized by fixtures of simple form, without decor. In this interior is often used models with round plafonds in the form of cones, spheres or some abstract forms.

In provence, floor lamps and volumetric chandeliers are often found. As a decorative interior composition pick up sconces with natural patterns or chandeliers with mirrored lampshades.

Safe establishment of lighting

As mentioned above, the lighting scheme is better to develop before the beginning of the repair, first of all it is important for safety reasons. Lighting fixtures in bathrooms should be sealed, waterproof and at a sufficient height so that they do not fall drops of water. Also when planning the location of light sources, it is better to consider the following recommendations:

  • light sources should not have exposed cables and wires;

  • electric network in the bathroom must be grounded;

  • It is better not to install light fixtures directly above the bathroom, because if the moisture gets on the heated glass, the bulb may burst;

  • extension categorically not recommended.

As you can see, the most important thing in the bathroom layout is to think in advance about the layout of light sources, taking into account safety technology. And the aesthetic component is completely dependent on your tastes and preferences.
